Programs growing out of
Boys Will be Boys

In 1994, Suzy Garfinkle Chevrier, a young Florida mother of three, read an op-ed by Dr. Miedzian based on a chapter of Boys Will Be Boys entitled “When Boys and Babies Meet.” She wrote expressing her interest in starting an organization that would advocate teaching child-rearing in our schools. In 1995, Ms. Chevrier, together with Dr. Miedzian and her husband non-profit executive Gary Ferdman, founded Prepare Tomorrow’s Parents.

In 1995 Dr. Miedzian gave a lecture in Toronto focused on the need to teach child-rearing and empathy skills to school children. Roots of Empathy which now runs programs in nine Canadian provinces, was started a year later.

In 1999 Mary Gordon, President of Roots of Empathy wrote in a letter to Dr. Miedzian : “If Judy Broadbent [president of the Maytree Foundation] had not heard your lecture and read your book, Roots of Empathy would not be a National Canadian program, a Japanese program, or any program.”
